About Us
Founded in 2019 by philanthropist Alice Walton, we’re on a mission to increase access to care, improve outcomes, and transform the health care system as we know it.

Whole person health is the very heart of what we do. We’re Heartland Whole Health Institute.
The United States has one of the highest levels of health care spending worldwide, yet our overall health rankings are lower than peer countries. This national health crisis, coupled with her own health care experience, inspired Alice Walton to launch Heartland Whole Health Institute.
We aim to transform health care by:
- Improving quality
- Reducing costs
- Expanding access
Through research, advocacy, and education we develop care and payment models that can be duplicated here in the Heartland and across the country.
Our Collaboration with Alice L. Walton School of Medicine
We share our mission with Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, which is set to welcome its first class in 2025. This MD-granting, whole-person-focused medical school fills a much-needed gap for provider training in Northwest Arkansas. Our Institute will work closely with the school in many ways, from providing avenues for faculty research to offering real-world learning experience for future physicians.
Our Team
From our board members to team members on the front lines, our people are passionate about making a difference. Learn more about our researchers, clinicians, analysts, and administrative staff.
Our Partners
Heartland Whole Health Institute and Alice L. Walton School of Medicine partner with regional and national organizations such as Northwest Arkansas Council, Community Health Clinic, Mercy, and Cleveland Clinic.
